Almost everyone has that one thing they like to collect. There are people among us that believe lunchboxes are all the rage. Where can you find these treasures?

These small reminders of days of old can now run into the thousands of dollars. Looking back, you may find it amazing that the lunchbox you threw to the ground when playing with your friends is now a highly sought after collectible. If you knew that years ago, you may have used a little caution.

There are many options to find these treasures of the past if you are on the hunt. However, there are also many factors to consider. If you are buying from a picture you see, then you may want ensure the item is not a reproduction before purchase. You may also want to inspect the item closely for damage. Even stains or scratches on the inside can impact price.

Local Flea Markets

One great option in your search are local flea markets and antique stores. The only drawback with these places is that they are well aware of what the item is worth, and you are sure to pay full price. There also will be limits on what is available. You could search for years just to find that one coveted lunch accessory. Consider that the items popular 20 years ago are the same ones everyone is looking for today.

Put Your Call Out on the Web

Try putting a call out on the web, as there are websites that allow you to list the items you are in search of. One such place is Craigslist.com. If someone has the lunchbox you are looking for, they can contact you directly to make a sale. There are many of other sites on the Internet today that will do the same for you.

With these sites you should try to find one for people in your area. This way you can meet the person who has your item available face to face. Never purchase a lunchbox online without viewing it first. However, you may be able to find an independent appraiser to verify the item as authentic. This can cut down on disputes to quality after the sale.

Visit an Auction Website

Another option to consider for finding that childhood treasure is an auction website. While you will not have the option to see the item up front in most cases, you can find some great deals. It may be worth your risk to buy an item very cheap just to see if it is authentic. Norman's Olde Store is one such website that sells antique collectible lunchboxes. Most sites will also offer insurance or recovery options, if someone misrepresents an item.

No matter what you do to find collectible lunchboxes, just make sure you take the time to enjoy the memories of the era. The fond thoughts of yesteryear that these lunchboxes evoke can often be worth more than any cost you pay.
